Why You'll Love Coming to Mires Beck Nursery

At Mires Beck Nursery, we grow a diverse range of hardy perennials, herbs, shrubs, wildflowers, and trees. All our plants are cultivated using peat-free compost and spend most of their lives outdoors, ensuring they are ready for planting in your garden as soon as you take them home.

Our trainees play a central role in the growing process, participating in every stage, including sowing seeds, taking cuttings, filling pots, weeding, cutting back, and labelling. Every task is carried out by hand, giving our plants the dedicated attention they deserve.

We propagate and grow over 300 varieties of herbaceous perennials, perfect for various garden environments. Perennials die back to the ground at the end of the growing season, but their roots remain alive through winter, ensuring new growth each spring.

Our perennials offer long-lasting beauty and versatility, providing nectar for bees and butterflies while enhancing gardens with vibrant flowers in countless colours. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just starting out, perennials bring seasonal interest year after year.

Our plant catalogue is available [here]. Our knowledgeable staff are always happy to assist with your plant selections.

Our herb team cultivates around 50 varieties of herbs for culinary, medicinal, and decorative use. From kitchen essentials to ornamental favourites, our herbs are propagated from seeds, cuttings, or divisions.

Visit our plant database [here] for a current herb selection. The Friends of Mires Beck have also created a Herb Recipe Book featuring herbs grown at the nursery, available for purchase at our retail hut.

Shrubs are essential for year-round garden structure, offering foliage, flowers, fruits, and ornamental stems. We carefully select shrubs to fit gardens of all sizes and styles, ensuring lasting beauty and environmental benefits.

We have been growing native Yorkshire-provenance wildflowers for over 30 years. Our team gathers seeds from our stock plants, the nursery estate, and local wild sources (with permission), maintaining a unique seed library.

Our wildflowers are grown in peat-free compost, using 60% recycled plastic containers. We supply wildflowers to conservation projects across the UK, from the Shetland Isles to the Channel Islands.
